15 years of Hair Solved London
This year marks a very special landmark for Hair Solved London; their 15th Anniversary.
Sally Forward, founding Director of Hair Solved London, took some time to look back over 15 very special years and share her thoughts and most poignant moments.. We are so grateful to Sally for taking the time to develop this blog and we hope you enjoy reading it as much as we enjoyed talking to Sally.
Looking back over the last 15 years, what were your ambitions and aspirations for the London Salon?
Fifteen years ago, the vision for Hair Solved London was to create a southern salon where women experiencing hair loss could feel totally at ease. I believe we achieved this by creating a welcoming, relaxing environment where clients could enjoy the services we provide and it felt like just going to a regular salon. The goal was to build a team that shared that same empathy and professionalism, whilst always striving to improve and innovate in the field of female hair loss.
What is the most satisfying thing about hitting the 15-year landmark?
It’s incredibly satisfying to look back and see how many lives we’ve changed. Beyond the numbers, it’s about the people – the clients who walk in feeling vulnerable and leave with a new lease of life and confidence. Reaching 15 years shows we’ve built something lasting, meaningful, and trusted. We have 15 year celebration stickers on the mirrors and some of the clients who have been coming to us from the start have been chatting to me and the staff about when they first came and how they felt, its really lovely to hear all the stories again.
Looking ahead, I’d love to see Hair Solved London evolve and continue to grow; I hope we continue to break the stigma associated with female hair loss and lead the way in non-surgical hair replacement solutions.
What’s the next step for Hair Solved London?
Continued product development, we’re always researching better, more natural, and longer-lasting solutions for our clients. We recently introduced our Enhancer Flexi for total hair loss which is perfect for young active clients.
Is there a client story that has really stuck in your mind over the years?
There are so many, but one that stands out is a client who had avoided social situations and even mirrors for years due to hair loss. After her system was fitted, she broke down in tears because she finally recognised herself again. She later sent us a letter explaining how the transformation gave her the confidence to study again and finally she got the job she had always wanted. That’s when you realise this isn’t just about hair – it’s about giving people their lives back. Another was a young lady who told me if she met the man of her dreams when she had her new hair she would invite me to her wedding! This September, 10 years later, I will be attending her wedding in France!
Has the system changed, or the hair that you use?
Yes, both the system and the hair we use have evolved significantly over the past 15 years. Advances in materials and construction techniques mean our systems are now lighter, more breathable and more natural-looking. We work with carefully selected suppliers to ensure higher quality, longer-lasting hair that responds well to styling and day-to-day wear.
Has the type or cause of hair loss changed i.e. more stress-related, more instances of cancer, more trichotillomania?
Absolutely, we’re seeing a broader spectrum of causes now. While conditions like alopecia and hair loss from cancer treatment remain central, we’ve noticed a definite rise in stress-related hair loss, especially amongst younger women. Trichotillomania has also become more openly discussed, which means more clients are seeking help for it. The pandemic period brought a spike in stress-induced shedding. Increased awareness and diagnosis of hormonal imbalances, autoimmune issues, and even long COVID have also contributed to changing patterns in hair loss.
Do you think women’s reaction to experiencing hair loss has changed?
To some extent, yes. Women today are more likely to seek help earlier and are increasingly proactive in exploring their options. There’s still a lot of emotion involved – it’s never just about the hair – but we’re seeing more women speak up, ask questions, and come to consultations better informed. That said the emotional toll of hair loss is still very real and often underestimated by those who haven’t experienced it themselves. We still work hard to create a supportive space where clients feel heard and safe.
Do you think the general public’s reaction to hair loss has changed?
There has definitely been progress in terms of awareness and acceptance. Social media, celebrity openness, and more visible campaigns around hair loss have helped reduce the stigma. But there’s still a long way to go – many of our clients still feel they have to explain themselves or hide what they’re going through. It’s encouraging to see more conversations happening in the media and online. Over the last 15 years, we’ve seen a shift, but it’s a work in progress.
When we first started, many women didn’t know there were non-surgical, semi-permanent solutions like hair systems available
Are people more aware of the option of a system?
Yes, awareness has definitely grown over the past 15 years. When we first started, many women didn’t know there were non-surgical, semi-permanent solutions like hair systems available – they often thought their only options were wigs or accepting the hair loss. Now, thanks to social media, client testimonials, and word-of-mouth more women are discovering systems earlier in their hair loss journey. Many people still feel isolated when they first experience hair loss, so education and visibility remain a key part of what we do.
What inspired you to become a hair loss technician?
I was inspired by the emotional impact hair loss has on women and how often it’s overlooked or under-discussed. The combination of creativity, care and the ability to truly change how someone sees themselves is what continues to drive me every day. Although my role has evolved over the 15 years I still really enjoy the actual fitting of Hair Systems as it’s a creative process and so rewarding.
Would you recommend being a technician as a career?
Absolutely. It’s a deeply rewarding career. Technicians don’t just work with hair, they work with confidence, self-image and emotional well-being. You form real, trusting relationships with clients and get to witness first-hand the impact you’re making in their lives. The work is creative and hands-on, but it also requires empathy, professionalism and a passion for helping people. For someone who wants a meaningful, skilled career that makes a real difference, being a hair loss technician is a fantastic path.
