Our Enhancer System
To help you better appreciate how the Enhancer can help you, we've organised the information into easy-to-follow FAQ links. If you are familiar with comparable systems or use one at the moment, please check how we compare.
What is the Enhancer?
The Enhancer is an advanced and affordable hair system developed by, and exclusive to HAIR SOLVED It conceals all types of hair loss and allows you to enjoy all your everyday activities with the appearance and confidence of a full and secure head of hair.
The Enhancer is a bespoke system combining hair extensions and mesh attached to your scalp to create a solution to suit your personal needs. It is a non-surgical, risk-free, cosmetic procedure that can be designed to cover total hair loss or to complement your existing hair.
How does the Enhancer work?
In its simplest terms, The Enhancer is a custom made hair system fixed to your head using existing hair, or in case of total hair loss - specialist surgical tapes (until some of the hair grows back).
Step one is to attach a special high durability flexible mesh to the scalp. This is achieved by carefully threading strands of your existing hair through the mesh. We then secure the mesh using your own hair and specialist tools. We do not use heat or glue as these can increase the risk of damage to your own hair. Many comparable systems use complicated braiding techniques combined with heat or glue sealing to secure mesh to the scalp. In our experience, these can weaken already fragile hair and result in even greater hair loss.
Step two is to apply real or synthetic hair components to the mesh. Again, no heat or glue is used to attach the hair to the mesh. We apply the hair in small sections to replicate the fall and movement of natural hair. When needed, we finish the design with a centrepiece to provide a parting that can be styled just as you would your own hair. And the base of this centrepiece is virtually indistinguishable from a natural scalp parting!
We will advise you as to which hair type and texture is most appropriate for you. You are not limited to your own hair colour as we can create the effect you desire, including highlights and lowlights.
Step three - No Enhancer is complete without an excellent cut and style. Our stylists have been trained to master the techniques of cutting hair with hair extensions to ensure that you leave our studios with an absolutely beautiful head of hair.
How long does fitting an Enhancer take?
Creating an Enhancer design typically takes from 3 to 6 hours, depending on each client’s individual condition. At your consultation, we will advise you how long you can expect to spend in our studios.
How long does the Enhancer last?
One Enhancer can last, in good condition, for anything from 1½ to 3 years, depending on maintenance. Enhancers use high quality materials, selected to ensure longevity.
What happens when my hair regrows?
Every 6 weeks, as the hair grows, the Enhancer becomes less tightly fixed on the head. It therefore needs to be adjusted and maintained regularly to preserve its optimum appearance. Maintenance is less complex than the initial fitting and takes typically between 1 to 1.5 hours.
In addition, every 4-6 months, we advise you to have your Enhancer realigned. This involves lifting off your existing Enhancer (but keeping it intact) and re-applying it. Realignment takes approximately 2-3.5 hours.
Will my hair regrow under the Enhancer?
The Enhancer allows you to grow back your own hair. So it’s a particularly suitable and effective solution after chemotherapy, accidental hair loss or trichotillomania (hair pulling). For trichotillomania sufferers, it acts as a barrier making it particularly difficult to pull out natural hair. In that way, it can help break the habit. We have seen cases where, after about 8-10 months, clients have managed to grow all their hair back to a reasonable length and stop using any hair replacement solution. And they never believed that this would be possible!
Colouring
As the system will cover your own head of hair, we’ll carefully choose every element to achieve the effect and style you’d like. And if you’re not quite sure, we’ll also share our expertise to advise you as to what works best for you. On your initial consultation, we’ll assess the colours you are interested in having, including, for example, highlights and lowlights. We’ll also help you decide if you should colour your own hair prior to having the system installed. We can do it for you in the studio on the day of the appointment, but it is a legal requirement that we perform a 24-hour allergy test. If you have had to travel far to our studio this might therefore cause inconvenience. So, we’d suggest, based on experience, that most clients will not require a colour change before we attach the Enhancer. We can of course, easily determine this at your consultation.
Comparison with wigs
There really is no comparison!
Hair integration and volumising systems such as the Enhancer use your own hair (and on rare occasions - in cases of extreme hair loss - specialist surgical tapes) to attach an ultra-light, non-allergic mesh material to your scalp. After a few days you’ll hardly be aware of it and, after a few weeks of using the system, you’ll completely forget it’s artificial. It can be washed and styled just like your own hair; you can treat it as your own hair even when you’re swimming, exercising and sleeping. Mesh allows your skin to breathe and it's easy to wash through. We apply only as much hair to the system as is needed to create the ultimate natural look. And it’s much lighter than most wigs too!
Plus, there’s no need to remove the system at all, apart from a once in 6 months maintenance session, when we remove it for you. And this is merely to assess any changes in your hair and, using all your own newly grown hair as available, to re-attach it. Additionally, if the condition of your hair has improved enough to remove the system completely, we’ll advise you accordingly, and discuss any other options…which may include not using anything at all - just your own beautiful hair.
Basically, in hair replacement, the Enhancer is everything that a wig is not. Wigs are - in most cases – uncomfortable: unless they are custom-made they don't fit well, they induce perspiration, and they constantly move on your head, whatever you use to attach them. We've even seen a case where a client was advised by the wigmaker to use superglue to hold her wig in place. She followed the advice and, quite predictably, did serious damage to her scalp.
Also, if you have quite a lot of your own hair and wear a wig to disguise just a few bald patches, you have to keep all your hair underneath. And that can make it unbearably hot in warm weather.
Good quality wigs cost a great deal of money to buy, and you need a specialist to cut them: once to fit you well, and then to maintain them after. Many hairdressing salons offer such services, but charge a great deal for the specialist knowledge a stylist requires in order to deal with a wig. And, after all, a wig will always look like a wig. Unlike the Enhancer!

Will it damage my hair?
The truth about hair is that we lose 100 - 125 hairs a day. People wearing traditional hair extensions for the first time are often shocked to find out a lot of broken hairs when they are being removed. However, it's just the hair that has come out naturally, but was held in place by the extension bonding. That contributes to a common myth that hair extensions damage hair.
As hair integration and volumising systems are technically a method of hair extension, you may hear similar stories about loss. Fortunately, as specialists, we can tell you that if the hair is going to fall out, it will do so with or without the system. If there is no medical condition, as in cases of trichotillomania or chemotherapy hair loss, hair should most probably grow back intact. In cases of alopecia, if the condition reverses, the hair will grow back too. Hair extensions and hair systems cannot be blamed for contributing to hair loss in healthy conditions.
Can you feel it?
Initially - yes. But it is not uncomfortable. It is like with anything new, you are aware that there is something that wasn't there before. The look in the mirror and on the faces of passers-by compensates totally for any potential initial discomfort from wearing a system.
As the days go by, you start feeling the system less and less, and eventually forget about it as something artificial. On your 6 week appointments we tighten fit of the system and, after a period of time, you’ll find that the tighter it is, the better it feels.
Sports/swimming?
All sports activities are possible when using the system. We advise only to tie your hair in a ponytail or perhaps wear a swimming cap, but you probably would have done so anyway with your own hair.
Showering/washing at home?
It is easy to wash and style the system at home, although you can use the services of your local hairdressers - as long as they do not tamper with the system itself! You wash and dry the Enhancer just as you would your own hair. The only difference is: the less you tangle the Enhancer hair, the quicker it will be to comb and section it to blow-dry. Of course you can leave it to dry naturally as well. Plus, you can still use a variety of hair styling equipment, including curlers and straighteners.
