The system has made an enormous difference to Sue's daily life.
Living with Hair Loss as an Actress
Sue’s experience of hair loss is shaped not only by living with it for many years, but by a lifetime in a profession where appearance is constantly scrutinised. As an actress, she was acutely aware of how closely hair is linked to how others saw her, to opportunities at work, and even basic respect. “People treat you differently,” she explains.
Without a full head of hair, she noticed a shift and an “astonishing” level of disregard from others. With her hair system in place, however, that attitude changes entirely. Strangers assume her hair is natural and often believe she is far younger than her 76 years
A Wider Experience for Women
Her story reflects a broader reality for many women.
As we grow older, hair naturally thins due to hormonal changes and reduced follicle activity. For some, this thinning is gradual; for others, it can feel sudden and deeply personal. Unlike male-pattern baldness, female hair loss often presents as diffuse thinning, making it harder to disguise and, in many cases, much, much harder to talk about openly.
Yet its emotional impact can be just as significant, affecting confidence, identity, and how women feel they are seen in the world.
A Transformative Solution
For Sue, a hair system has been transformative. “Any system is better than no hair,” she says plainly, emphasising the “enormous” difference it has made to her daily life. Beyond the practical—no longer needing to rely on hats or worry about sparse areas—it has restored a sense of confidence and ease. Social interactions feel smoother, without the same self-consciousness that once accompanied her hair loss.
That said, her experience is not without challenges. Maintaining a hair system requires commitment, both financially and practically. Sue speaks candidly about the cost, describing it as significant, especially on her limited income. Regular upkeep, replacements, and salon visits can feel a bit overwhelming, even though she considers the end result completely worthwhile. There are also the everyday realities: occasional discomfort just after an adjustment and some styling frustrations; though, she is clear to say, natural hair comes with its own set of difficulties too.

"All the staff are really lovely" Sue
The Importance of the Salon Experience
What really stands out is Sue’s experience within the salon itself.
The relationships she has built with the team have become an important part of the journey. “All the staff are really lovely, they’re really polite, they’re really helpful,” she says. That warmth and friendliness, particularly in the Manchester salon, makes a difference: “People in the northwest of England, they are really lovely… they’re really kind.”
She speaks with particular affection about members of the team, adding, “Laura’s great… she’s got a sense of humour, she’s fabulous.” Even when working with newer stylists, Sue has found reassurance in their care and attention: “She’s a trainee… but she’s actually really, really good… even if she makes a little mistake … the team help her with it.”
These interactions with the salon team help create a sense of ease and reassurance in what could otherwise be a vulnerable experience. Appointments, technical fittings, and ongoing maintenance are made more manageable by an environment where Sue feels supported and understood.
The human side of the process—conversation, kindness, and continuity of staff—becomes just as valuable as the system itself.
Evolving with Confidence
After more than a decade of wearing a system, it feels like part of her routine. She has developed preferences for her system—favouring a shorter, more natural-looking bob and more visible grey to better reflect her age.
Her perspective has shifted away from trying to look younger, toward simply wanting to look like herself, with hair that feels authentic.
More Than Just Hair
Sue’s story highlights an important truth: for many women, hair loss is not just a cosmetic issue, but a deeply social and emotional one. Solutions like the Enhancer System can offer a powerful sense of restoration.
Sue’s honesty—about confidence, cost, ageing, and identity, and the importance of feeling cared for throughout the process—adds a valuable voice to a conversation that more women are beginning to have.
In the end, what matters most to her is simple: “It stops me looking bald. It’s brilliant… I’ve got hair.”
